Update to Pharmacy Benefit Drug Prior Authorization Process for Exchange Members
Feb. 5, 2026
Beginning April 1, 2026, BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina will internally manage non-specialty drug prior authorization (PA) requests for Exchange members.
OptumRx will no longer manage pharmacy PA requests for Exchange members. This change applies to our Exchange (Affordable Care Act or Marketplace) plans with group numbers that start with 61, 62 or 65.
To streamline the PA process, we encourage you to submit pharmacy PA requests through CoverMyMeds (CMM), an electronic prior authorization (ePA) service portal. CMM helps prescribers and pharmacies quickly find, complete, and submit PA requests.
You can use CMM to:
- Submit the request electronically.
- Quickly find the correct PA request form for your patient’s plan.
- Receive real-time, plan-specific answers to clinical guideline questions.
- Complete pharmacy-initiated PA requests.
- Easily manage follow-ups for all your requests and patients.
- Check status of existing ePA requests.
To get started, please register for a free account or login to your existing CMM account.
